Joyeux noel

when i awoke
from dreaming
and all of the spaces on the map
in between
sleep
and our faded reality
began to blur
into grey
i had only one
thought.

there was an old blue ship
and you and i
were standing in the lobby
of a grand hall
where the christmas lights
all seemed so much
more twinkly
than they ever can be
on land.

we were whispering and
i was swaying
as you described to me
what it meant
to be
an untuned piano
on board
a beautiful
old ship
as the snow falls
onto
baltic waves
at christmas time.
